Congress is back at work after a weeklong recess, with Republicans eyeing an ambitious schedule to move on President Trump’s “one big beautiful bill” by Memorial Day. Congressional committees are starting to roll out the pieces of the bill, which will aim to extend the 2017 tax cuts, authorize new spending, raise the debt ceiling and overhaul Medicare.
Throughout this session, we will be keeping track of the various deadlines that are looming on the horizon as they relate to fiscal policy. This week, the House of Representatives will consider a package of bills to limit toxic chemicals in everyday cosmetic products, protect salon workers, and make it easier for people to qualify for Medicaid. It also includes a measure to allow the public to inspect Congress’ classified documents.
The House will also hold a hearing on the nominations of Richard Buchan III to be Ambassador to Morocco, John Giordano to be Ambassador to the Republic of Namibia, Michel Issa to be Ambassador to the Republic of Lebanon, and Sean O’Neill to be Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan. The House will then hold a full committee, business meeting to markup an original bill entitled the ‘ROAD to Housing Act of 2025,’ 10 a.m., SD-419.
